Shri Harihar Kshetra Madku Dweep: A Spiritual Gem in Chhattisgarh Shared by Happy Destinatian Mr. Kailash Kumar

Hello #HappyDestinatians, I am Kailash Kumar.

Today, we will continue our tradition of exploring another significant site that we rarely visit, to appreciate its importance. This island, with its natural beauty, is located 4 kilometers from Baitalpur and 76 and 37 kilometers from Chhattisgarh. To reach the island, one can arrange to travel to Baitalpur and then take a boat.

During the summer seasons, it is possible to reach the island directly by road as the river’s water level may be low. The optimal time to visit the island is during the rainy and winter seasons.

The island is surrounded by the Shivnath River on all four sides, making it a unique destination for pilgrimage and picnic also. Friends, the river island we are discussing is Harihara kshetra and Kedar Dweep and it is also known as Madku Island or Madku dweep.

The name Madku stems out from the fact that the island is of the shape of a frog. The beauty of this island is considered to be spell-bounding. The picturesque Madku Dweep has an area of around 24 hectares and is full of greenery. The island is also famous for its ancient temples and their historical and archaeological importance.

This island is the place where Vishnu and Shiva met. Due to their meeting the place was sanctified and being known as Harihara Kshetra. It is a sacred place where sage Mandukya compiled Mandukya Upanishad. It is very interesting friends the Satyamev Jayate which is embedded in our constitution is taken from Mandukya Upanishad, which was compiled on this island only.

Archaeologists have discovered prehistoric stone tools, epigraphs, and coins on this island of Madku. The study says, stone inscriptions have also been found, which are believed to date back to the 3rd century BC.

One stone inscription was in Brahm script and another in Shankha script of Indian origin. Madku Dweep is also home to several ancient and unique idols of Lord Shiva, Ganesha, Lord Vishnu, Shiv Parvati, Nandi and various other Gods.  Although, not much popular till now, there are temples in Kedar Dweep, both old and new style, that are frequented equally by devotees from across the globe.

The unearthed remains found during the 2011 excavations are rearranged into 20 temples, all of which are presently kept into a single shed. Excavations have also unearthed old temples, sculptures etc including those from the Kalchuri period (11th Century).

As one enters the temple gate, a spacious Ram Ashray is prominently situated, welcoming all visitors. Under the guidance of Sant Ram Roop Das Mahatyagi Maharaj, this establishment provides an array of facilities and is supported by a team of humble and dedicated disciples.

During my visit, I encountered Radhika, a diligent disciple who shared her knowledge about the area’s importance and extended hospitality by serving a delightful tea, prepared personally within the Ashram, paired with fresh organic fruits.

The temple complex is encircled by diverse medicinal flora and fauna, which are uncommon in other locations.

The tranquility of Ram Ashray and its environs defies verbal explanation and can only be truly appreciated through personal experience.

The chanting of mantras and yagna performed there further elevates the area into a realm of profound spiritual growth and transformation In the stillness of dweep, I discovered a profound sense of inner peace.

Friends, Madku Dweep is an undiscovered treasure worth visiting to discover its wonderful experience. I am sure this article will inspire you to plan an exceptional trip to one of the hidden gems of Chhatisgarh, Bharath. JAI HIND. – Mr. Kailash Kumar, A #HappyDestinatian
